Pretty much like yesterday, except that I leap from the Martian Bachelor page to The Misanthropic Bitch site. Very funny, particularly the fact that she's working with heavy irony in a space where many people don't understand that someone might not be saying exactly what they mean - vis her ongoing war with Teenage Mothers, evangelism for Marduk (with a response or two!) and a Feminist Crusader called Coatlique (and again, and again). I especially like it when Coatlique writes:

Can you say "HYPOCRACY"? Let's spell it boys and girls: H-Y-P-O-C-R-A-C-Y.

Can you grasp the concept of what the word "hypocracy" means? Perhaps you should look it up in that dictionary of yours that you love so much-you know, the one that you're alway offering to send to people? Or perhaps you do not really have a dictionary.

You could make this stuff up, but the fact that she didn't makes it occasionally hilarious. Be warned - it's very sarcastic and very cruel. If you like cruelty and sarcasm, though, this is the place. Just remember: 1) She doesn't have a go specifically at people unless they write to her first, and 2) people should know what they are in for when they do (if they've read the site).

I have joined her mailing list, which apparantly makes me a very sick bunny indeed.

Perhaps I should add that I don't personally have anything against teenage (or single) mothers, or most of the other targets she attacks.

Which makes me a Hypocrat.

I think we should give serious consideration to Marduk, though.

The parmesan cheese grater grinds to a halt and dies.

In the evening it's Rich Barnard at the Kamel Klub. I phoned Janet in the afternoon and asked her if she'd like to do the door for me and she agreed - I really need someone to take care of the People. I can only really deal with people en masse. As usual I was nervous about whether anyone will turn up, but he brought some people in, which was terrific. A great evening as it turned out - Barry Allen came unbidden to do a spot (I'm going to be snowed under, aren't I...?), Peter Brown turned up (a bit late) and did a song (in the spring and early summer, no open mike is complete without Peter Brown), Nina Finburgh provided a lovely counterpoint to all those singer-songwriters (she "does characters" to pieces of classical music - should be seen rather than explained. Well, ought to be seen, can't be explained) and Rich himself did a marvellous set.

Steve Chin (and a number of other VACcers) are there - I nominate myself to be the host at the VAC next Wednesday.

When I get home and reach into my back pocket for my keys, I find the money that I should have paid Rich. Doh!

(And I miscalculated the money, so that at the end of the day I was about £2.50 down on the deal. Oh Well.)
